Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first championship after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after March of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has secured 21 victories at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is really nice," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His retrieving play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his capacity to play at the top level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to create a third set.

He defended four early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
